Barry T. White, M.D.

Dr. White was  born in Ohio and grew up in Huntington, West Virginia. In 1979 he set out for college at the University of Georgia to be a veterinarian and left headed toward medical school. There, he met his wife Katherine, a budding artist from Florida. They married at the end of his second year of medical school at West Virginia University School of Medicine in 1986 and began a journey together that would take them to Pennsylvania for specialty training in Family Practice as they planned to be life-long missionaries. Twenty moves and six children later, Dr. White and his family came to Kentucky after traveling to six continents - learning French in Quebec, Canada; working at a hospital in Togo, West Africa; teaching the Bible and working in a prison in Ratanakiri Province Cambodia;  and practicing in the high plains of Montana. After serving veterans three years at the VA clinic in Somerset, in July of 2011 Dr. White moved across the parking lot to take over Dr. MengistuYemane’s practice at its present location.

Dr. White brings with him over 20 years of international experience with a view of health care that reflects the diversity of his travels. His wife is still the love of his life and children are a great blessing. They and a whole slew of animals live on a small farm in Lincoln County where Dr. White can usually be found outdoors when not in the office. He is always ready for a good game of basketball or cornhole!

Melissa B. Cheng, APRN

Melissa Cheng, APRN originally joined Dr. White's practice in July 2011 when Dr. White took over Dr. Yemane's practice. She had the privilege of working with Dr. White until March 2012 when a full time nurse practioner was needed. Sandra Braswell graciously took the full time position and over the next 2 years, Dr. White and Sandra diligently grew the practice to the point of again needing a part time nurse practioner. This allowed for the return of Melissa to the practice in May 2014.

Melissa Cheng has 3 years of experience as a registered nurse in pediatrics while working at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and UK Children's Hospital. While working at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital she gained valuable knowledge in adult health care. Since obtaining her nurse practioner's license she has gained experience in both urgent care and family care settings. Her most important work though is being a wife to her husband Alfie and a mother to their 3 small children.

When not at work, Melissa can be found working in her garden, growing flowers and vegetables, just like her mother and grandmother have done for so many years. She regularly volunteers at their church in the children's ministry as a preschool teacher. In addition, Melissa and her family frequently travel, both local and abroad, enjoying the new cultures, scenery and fare.
